In typhoon’s wake, Time Warner Cable offers free calls to the Philippines

Time Warner Cable made a good business decision (and an all-around good decision) on Tuesday that is sure to create goodwill within the Filipino-American community.

On Nov. 12, Time Warner Cable announced that it would make calls to landline and mobile numbers in the Philippines free for all of its residential and business customers through Nov. 30, and is retroactive for all calls placed since Nov. 8.

“It is a difficult time for those who have loved ones in the Philippines and our thoughts go out to those impacted by Typhoon Haiyan,” Rob Marcus, Time Warner Cable’s president, said in a statement. “To help the Filipino-American community keep in touch with family and friends, we are making all calls placed to the Philippines free for our phone customers.”

In addition, Time Warner Cable said it has made The Filipino Channel available at no additional cost to digital TV subscribers through Nov. 15 to help customers better connect to news and information about Typhoon Haiyan recovery efforts.
